PU gaming have been talking over the idea of having a map making competition with some cool prizes and so I thought I would come and see who is interested in taking part?

I agree you will do fine.
And the comp will be for NOLF1 and if it all goes well then we may run some more.
You can check out the beta of the site at http://parallel-universe.co.uk/competition/index2.htm
Please bare in mind that the content it is not final

Two things to consider ...
1. Give a decent amount of time for a due date ... we don't need rushed maps ... (I'm thinking a couple of months).
2. Have a team (one group) of unbiased players to playtest the maps for us before releasing them for the competition. It will help everyone release a better map and it will only be fair if one group playtests and provides feedback for all the maps.
3. I understand some theme needs to me made to ensure these maps are made from the contest beginning till the end (to keep someone from releasing a map they may already have nearly finished / finished). But let's not be restrictive by the theme ... (all outdoor, construction site, residential, etc.) Let the theme be more in terms of layout ... Have someone provide a basic layout design that we must follow (branching off and modifing to our liking). That way the idea of a theme will be enforced and not hinder one's creativity.
Just my thoughts ...

There will be a long period for map creation as for the way it will be judged there was will be a a selection of set judges who will the everything except the tech side of the maps for this we we will have a vote from the mapping community as they the ones who really can judge it fairly
